THIS WAS THE MOST DIFFICULT ITEM TO PUT TOGETHER THAT WE'VE EVER PURCHASED!!!! AND IF THAT WASN'T ENOUGH, IT IS A PIECE OF JUNK!!! Instructions were not complete, pieces weren't cut right, items were not as shown in directions, and directions were completely wrong. If you think you are handy and you are one person who can put this together, you better think again!1.) One leg came longer than the rest, requiring us to use a power saw to make it the right height. Thank goodness this was eventually covered by the top.2) The pull out/sliding mechanisms for the drawers came put together, which NEED TO BE APART in order to screw onto the drawers properly. This caused us to have to drill other holes in the unit and disregard the pre-drilled holes. There was no way to get them apart without breaking the cheap mechanism.3) The full back and the sides to the drawers are flimsy, VERY THIN board, akin to the cardboard you put on the backs of cheap bookshelves. For the price we paid for this unit, each board should have been thicker wood/particle board!4) After hours of getting this PIECE OF CRAP cabinet put together, you will come to find out that you CANNOT put forward facing files side by side!!!! NOT ONLY IS THERE NOT ENOUGH ROOM in the cabinets to put two rows side by side facing forward, but if you hang the files like that, THEY HIT THE BOTTOM!!! The only thing you can do to maximize the space is to hang all files sideways, and the drawers don't pull out far enough to get a file in easily, so you are going to be struggling with this set up forever!THIS SHELF HAS POOR INSTRUCTIONS, WRONG INSTRUCTIONS, PIECES AREN'T PROPER, IT IS NOT STURDY, IT IS NOT MADE RIGHT TO HANG FILES, AND OVERALL THE PRICE THAT YOU PAY FOR THE CHEAP MATERIAL THIS IS MADE OF IS RIDICULOUS!!!Once you get all the pieces out and put it together, you will understand why it would be impossible to try to send back... WHAT A PAIN and what a WASTE OF MONEY! This company obviously doesn't care what kind of CRAP they are producing and selling. LOOK ELSEWHERE!!! I'm not the only one saying this, buyer be warned!Get a magnifying glass for the strange instructions manual and some paint to cover all the chips on the top’s edge. Wow, the top is so brittle you can scratch it with a fingernail. I’m going to have to replace it and my cabinet in new. Also be prepared to have to redo some parts, like the sliders. I had to take them off twice to turn them the correct way or get them on the correct side. I put together a lot of furniture, this one, well, I guess you get what you pay for. It’s nice, for cheap.Feeling confident in my building skills (thank you to our favorite blue and yellow build-it-yourself, Swedish meatball-loving store), I took the other reviews with a grain of salt and purchased this lateral filing cabinet. Upon opening the box and placing out all of the pieces, I immediately noticed that there were dings and scratches in the paint on one of the front legs. If it were in the back of the piece, it wouldn't have really mattered. In reading the feedback, people were saying that this company didn't offer refunds, required the customers to pay to ship back the DAMAGED items (sometimes costing more than the item itself!), and didn't offer replacement parts. I decided to forego trying to wade through that process and just continued to put the piece together. A power drill is a must!! It'll save your wrist from cranking on the screwdriver. If you can follow the aforementioned store's instructions, this piece is not that difficult. However, the pictures are TINY. I missed some things to where I had to take apart, insert, and put back together.The pieces did fit together fairly well; with no gapping and the drawers are level. But the screw to attach the front knobs is not long enough to actually attach the knob, so I have to figure out something else to be able to easily open the drawers... Also, the "wood grain top" looks and feels EXTREMELY cheap (edges and corners already chipped) so I'm not expecting this piece to last very long at all. Which is unfortunate, because it fits the aesthetic of the room.The instructions suck! Not a single word, just illustrations. Ok, I'm an engineer, I can read drawings, but the illustration is so tiny I couldn't figure out what was intended. I had to take the drawer rails on and off 3 times before I got them installed so that the drawer closed flush with the cabinet. Once it was together, it looks nice.The instructions are very hard to read. The holes are not drilled straight so the one drawers I was able to get in does not slide correctly and is crooked. The other drawers the holes are not drilled for the parts and the seller wants me to fix it instead of sending a part with the drilled holes.My husband managed to get it together after some frustration and extremely fine print. The piece is nice after put together but may not be worth the assembly process. I assumed part of it would be together and you wouldn't have to assemble every single piece.I bought this for it's "look". However, it came damaged, with a big gouge out of the top (the seller did discount the product for me, so kudos to them). Also, it feels a bit flimsy after its put together. Don't use it for anything other than hanging files. I temporarily laid some items in the top draw, waiting for more hanging file folders, and the bottom of the drawer fell out.Took about 4 hours to assemble. It is not a very sturdy cabinet. The drawers don’t close well,they stick to the side and you need to give it an extra shove closed. I purchased the cherry top with dark bottom. The top turned out the ugliest shade of cherry I have ever seen. It is just cheap press board so I couldn’t restain it. I ended up attaching a different piece of wood I had to the top.
