BuMat 1.75mm ABS 3D Printer Filament - 1kg (2.2lb) Gray Spool - High Strength, Smooth Printing Material for DIY Projects, Prototyping & Home 3D Printing

Currently printing at 245C. with the HBP set at 115C. At 230-240C. (Tried at 5C. increments) it really didn't want to stick to itself and had insufficient hold on a very clean HBP set at 110C. (Straight undoped Kapton)Update: Printed a couple of overly complex, undersized tests that yielded more support material than the tiny fragile objects. But they completed so I tried something larger (A goblet). Estimated 7 hours 10 minutes project ceased to build at about 5 hours. Stopped extruding thread. I thought clogged nozzle (Running the ABS at higher than advertised temperatures was producing occasional brown flecks). Turned out to be broken filament though. Trying again. (I thought that it might be the filament being brittle at first but it was not. Issue was mechanical at my end that caused fractures in the filament, not the product.)Second attempt on the goblet succeeded (See customer images.) It's not exactly white but wasn't quite as 'Clear' as I had hoped (I wasn't expecting glass.) but it was OK. It has more of a silvery sheen on the surface with some translucent properties. The customer images are reasonable examples of the results thus far.I bought this filament to make a gold statue for a costume, and wanted to use gold material rather than painting something else. It was just a few days before Halloween, so I expedited shipping. It arrived the next day as expected and was packaged well.The first thing I always do with filament is inspect it. Using my digital calipers, I found a lot of variation in diameters, ranging from about 1.61 up to 1.76, with some of those variations only a couple inches apart. I was pretty disappointed, since I needed this stuff for my costume. I ran a quick test print and it seemed to work out ok. I jumped right in and set it up to make the statue and let it run overnight. The next morning, I had a really nice completed model! I had used a relatively solid infill (30%) and had put another fan to blow on it which could have helped, but I was really impressed with the results. It seemed to adhere to my heated glass bed really well without much tweaking, and produced a surprisingly great print, even better than some of my recent other prints. The gold color was vivid and even had some glisten to it, which turned out nicer than expected. After working about 14 hours into the material and measuring it again, I was finding it closer to 1.74-1.78, which is much more reasonable. Overall I'm quite happy with this filament, and will keep it in mind for when I need more.So far, so good for me, using it in an XYZ Davinci 1.0. As other reviewers have stated, it is very brittle, the reason for a 1-star loss. But as long as you situate the spool in a good location that prevents sharp bends while feeding, you should have no problems.Personally, the only breakage I've had was when I was first setting up my printer to take external filament, and this spool was the one I used when I did it. Since installing, I've printed about 140m from this spool so far and have not had a single break.Print quality is pretty good, with no major issues. I use ABS "juice" table primer (ABS + Acetone; 1mm:1ml) and have zero issues with lifting or shifting.Review update: I had shelved this filament for about a year as I had no need for clear and just this past week started using it again as I had a huge project come up. The first print I made came out great and then, as others have stated, everything fell apart. My extruder kept jamming mid print with that ominous "click click click." After several hours of troubleshooting with no results, I popped in a spool of a different brand/color and it printed like normal.I'm assuming this is diameter inconsistencies. I wasted a good bit of this roll, and now it seems that I'm just going to have to pitch it anyways since I can't use it without jamming. Such a shame, since I gave this a rather positive review upon my initial use of it.However, this roll was purchased in 2014, so it is possible they've corrected the issue by now.The roll I received seemed old, it was rough feeling and brittle. I could easily break it, and tangles usually led to breaks. It seemed to like higher temps of ~210*C. Once printed, I didn't seem to notice quality issues and prints usually came out as expected. Other than that, its an okay PLA, wont buy it again because i want higher quality that can run cooler and have a smoother finish. I ran it at .2mm, and it still seemed rough and got wavy from cooling. I would rate it 2/5, but it does glow in the dark, so you cant expect specialty filament to be the best quality out there. It gets the job done for what it is, and would only recommend if someone is wanting glow in the dark.I haven't found this filament to be as brittle as some other transparent filaments unless it gets cold. Transparency is very good and so far it hasn't had any knots when unwinding. Here's more information on the clear filament and the brittleness problem. Only the last few inches of the spool become brittle and the easiest thing to do is to unload the filament and just break off the brittle part. The white PLA does this as well and it's easy enough to work around.But I discovered a bigger problem when I reordered the clear PLA, they sent a different filament which was translucent and not transparent like the last spool (calling it "clear" is somewhat ambiguous). I kept it sealed so I could return it, but they told me it would be the same after it was heated. They were wrong, the package is now open because that's what they told me to do, and they aren't responding to my messages any more. It's too bad, the original clear was good but I don't trust the vendor and will take my business somewhere else. Be careful if you use "Shop 3D Supplies", maybe you'll get lucky, maybe you won't.Hands down the worst ABS filament I have ever used, and unfortunately it sat sealed for a while before I tried it and I can't return this crap. My Prusa I3 clone will print perfectly with all other brands. Tried temperatures up to 255. Then I measured the filament and it averages 1.70 mm, so I set my slicer software to use this thinking it wasn't pushing enough plastic. Same issues, a very thin print line and bad layer. I can tell it is crappy plastic when I try to load it, it is difficult to push through the nozzle by hand with the temperature set correctly. All other brands load very easy. Avoid this like the plague. I have two spools and they both act the same way, I'll probably take it outside and set it on fire to get my moneys worth.I'm Using a Makerbot Replicator 2 which runs at 230 degrees C; This filament worked well for a 2x - 2.5 hour print I ran 2 days ago, no plugging, nothing weird, good resolution and no odd surface defects at a 0.3mm resolution. There was a little shrinkage, but it was easily mitigated with a second print set with raft support and enclosing the printer to keep the heat in (its winter where I am and I'm next to a window...). But the oddest thing happened about 5 minutes ago ; The chord sheered off at the feed tube as it was just sitting on my desk ... with no outside influence, no touching or vibration. This is a first for me. Now I will have to check if the chord is intact prior to printing in the future to avoid a miss-print.Thought I would note that odd little thing to maybe prevent a miss print for other makers that may experience this ... its probably a good thing to check prior to running a print anyway .......... other then that, it seems to work great. I haven't had a print long enough to watch for dis coloring. But this was bought for mold making and painted parts anyway so I might never really care to notice.I'd rate this filament as OK, but not great. If you're using it for prototyping smaller objects and you're not on a deadline, it's fine. However I found the roll had a section that was way fatter in diameter than 1.75mm, probably 2.3 as another person mentioned, and the roll had a kink. this resulted in 2 long 10 hour prints being wasted when the printer jammed on the fat section, then when attempting to print again, it jammed on the kink in the spool, which was time and filiment down the drain. That being said I might buy again and just use it for smaller parts, it's a good price.I quite like this Filament, it has worked well for me ever since I got my printer. It prints really well. The only issue I have with the filament itself is that if I leave it in the printer after a print , it will snap somewhere between the spool and the extruder. I've never had this happen during a print however, even 24 Hour + prints have worked with no issues.The only other issue I have is that I've just ordered my 4th spool this ,and the spool is much skinnier and a larger diameter than previous one's I've received ( previous ones were as pictured, latest one was not ). I thought they'd sent me a 0.5kg spool at first. The change was unexpected and quite annoying since my filament holder was custom made to fit the old spool width, and the new spool does not fit on my holder.Found that the filament will snap by itself approx 30 min after my last print, which requires me to clear the fractured filament from my system (delta, uses a bowden tube), and re-feed. Takes a few minutes, and never had the problem before with other filament.That said, when it's printing, the clear filament prints easily and looks great.
