Hello,I never write reviews but just in case this helps anyone else. I looked at a lot of reviews for home office printers and seems everyone has a vehemently negative review out there for every brand on the market. I got a bit discouraged thinking I would have trouble no matter what printer I ended up with. I was afraid of buying a printer that would be a headache to setup, because though I'm technically considered a "millenial" I'm actually not great with technology--I need something that plugs in and is super easy and straightforward to use! (In my defense I did grow up in the analog era and I kind of miss it...). I do not need a printer that connects to an app or has smart functionality; I don't really care about LED screens. I just need a printer that works! At the last minute my brother suggested Brother printers. So far I'm satisfied with the purchase. I chose this model because I didn't want to pay over $200. I need something that can print a lot of documents though perhaps not every day. It is primarily for student use, so it will need to handle high volume printing and occasional color, and preferrably not guzzle ink.In a nutshell:1. Setup was straightforward and as easy as it can be. Walks you through every step. No mishaps.2. Time from pulling it out of the box, running print check, to printing my first document was about 35 minutes. :)3. Printed off 75+ sheets in BW and Color right away with the starter ink cartridges and haven't run out yet--nor does it seem to be running low. I know some people had trouble with their ink running out right away, but mine was fine!In short, if you're looking for a reliable and sturdy printer without too many bells and whistles, straightforward and easy to use out of the box, I think you could consider this one. I am happy with my purchase so far and I never write reviews. But I thought this might be helpful in case anyone else was sifting through reviews like I did, feeling discouraged about the options. One of the criticisms about this printer is how long it takes to warm up before each print. It does take a couple of seconds but it isn't really noticeable to me. If you always need to print things off in a hurry though, this might be something to consider--but I barely notice it, and printing is pretty fast once the printer has warmed up.Hope this helps someone.I bought this entry level printer bc I’d read previous reviews that it was an easy setup. And it was!! My computer doesn’t have a CD port for setup w a canon printer, & I didn’t wanna have to setup an account & download a buncha BS for an HP printer. This Brother printer had a 5 step setup process & took me only 30 minutes! And I’m severely inept when it comes to technology so I was very happy w the process.I’m a student and was needing this to print occasional study guides from home, and I think I’m going to be happy with this product! Picture quality isn’t the best for printing photos, but still pretty dang good for the overall price.I got tired of struggling with a HP Printer that didn't sync well with my Mac. Over half the time I would click print and nothing happened, or when it did print there was a paper jam. After months of frustration, I decided to buy this Brother printer and now I have no more problems. It was easy to set up and it has worked every time. This printer has made my life so much easier! It did not take long to get this printer going, and the test and subsequent prints have been excellent. I hope the ink lasts a year, as Brother claims. The scans however have not been as good. The Brother app does not have an option for filtering out blue pencil in a black and white scan. (I do cartoon strips, and need this.) I get better results using Apple's Image Capture app, but still have to do some cleaning up. Meanwhile, my ancient Canon scanner printer filters out all the blue pencil, leaving only clean, black and white inks. (And the computer that works with it is a G4 iBook!) I admit my needs are rather specialised, but the scanning software only needs a contrast tool to make it more usable. If you are not a cartoonist I suspect this printer will do just fine for you.Ink last about 6 months. I do not print regularly, maybe 1 to 2 time per week. This is a great machine that gets the job done well, but unfortunately, it can be a bit frustrating when using the machine for scanning. Scanning is only available on your mobile device, and there is no faxing capability, none on mobile either. The thing that is a real pity is this machine does not have automatic two sided printing for documents, and only supports that manually, which is a pain and can disappoint some people that expect a printer to do such thing, since it is pretty uncommon for printers to NOT support automatic duplex printing...a little tricky to set up. after set up it works well. you do need to research the printer cable to get the right cable for your computer and this printer. you may need adapters. comes set up forw irelessThis printer works well so far. I have just had it a week, so am giving it 4 stars. It was easy to set up (even for an elderly person like me). I purchased the recommended cable to connect the printer with my computer for the set up and am now connected to WiFi and wireless to my printer. Print quality is certainly good enough for my needs.
