Updated review:I received the below email 04-02-13. Dymo obviously cares not about small businesses who cannot afford to absorb their strong arm pay-to-play approach to doing business. I try to cut cost to get a small business up and running, but Dymo only allows customers to use less expensive generic stamps if you pay a monthly fee, otherwise you have to pay them for their overpriced blank stamps. Either way it is a screw the little guy campaign. You read the email and tell me differently...You are receiving this message because you are currently using a no-monthly-fee version of DYMO Stamps, Printable Postage or DYMO Stamps Online. We wanted to let you know that beginning on June 4, 2013 we will begin enforcing the requirement that users of the DYMO Stamps no-monthly-fee service use Genuine DYMO Stamps label rolls (#30915) in order to continue printing postage. DYMO brand labels are the only USPS approved labels that are also approved and supported by Endicia for use with our no-monthly-fee DYMO Stamps service. You may choose to continue using the no-monthly-fee service plan and purchase genuine DYMO brand labels that contain an activation code. Alternatively, if you currently use non-DYMO Stamps label rolls, you may choose to continue doing so with one of our monthly-fee service plans (Endicia Standard or higher), which start at $9.95 per month. Visit our website at [...] for more details on the available service plans. While you are under no obligation to continue using Endicia services, we hope that one of " about the activation code requirement, please visit our Activation Code FAQ page.Below is my original reply to purchase of this product.I purchased this with the intent to use if for the stamp printing service. After spending hours trying to get the stamp printing set up, with no weekend customer assistance, days later I was finally to able to contact customer assistance who immediately rectified the problem; which was an error caused at Endicia online. I was then told that the generic stamps, sold on Amazon for one-fourth the price of the Endicia stamps, were illegal and would not be accepted at the post office. I don't know if that is true or not. The scale set up was for a five, twenty and forty pound scale. This is a ten pound scale. This setting is still not set up and I hopefully will get this resolved soon. I have had a Brother Label printer for years and plan to keep using that for some things and the DYMO for others. Neither appears to be without setup or upgrade issues. The DYMO appears to have a bit more of refined appearance and print quality, but both appear to work well and I like the like them both. I do not like the fact that the DYMO does not have an OFF button, so it is always ON; and the OFF button on the scale does not work with the USB setup, so I assume that it may function with battery operation. I gave this three stars for set up problems and no OFF button, but I would give it four and a-half stars for overall quality.Update: I think DYMO is trying, their customer support is very good, and they claim they make no money on the sale of postage only on the paper.I run a rapidly growing but small local and internet retail business and by far, my biggest pain and suffering has been due to printing shipping labels. I had two inkjet printers, and always one, the other, or both were acting up and I had to leave my office to go get someone else to print a shipping label for me, rushing to beat the postman. No more. This DYMO LabelWriter set up has been flawless - worked every. single. time. without fail, hesitation, bug, human error. It is awesome. I love being able to print a first class stamp whenever I want one too - no more digging through drawers to find an old stamp or two (since I hardly ever use them anymore). And one of my kids had done something (who knows what) to my old postal scale that rendered it unreadable, so the scale in this deal was what drew me to it in the first place. The scale works great, the printer is more than I ever dreamed of. I bought a few sets of labels that I didn't need while trying to figure out how this was going to fit into my shipping routine, but Im sure they will get used for something one of these days. I am thrilled and am sold on the DymoEndicia thing that I never thought I would want to use because of the extra fees. That monthly fee is worth its weight in stress busting!I was apprehensive because I needed to find a label writer and postage printer and postage scale all in one unit but I needed one that was compatible with Mac. I went ahead and bought this one for that reason. I installed it yesterday and it was super easy. I printed custom address labels with my company logo lickidy-split. This unit is inexpensive and everything it said it would be. No problem with the Mac install. The labels are self-adheasive and use no ink because they print on thermal paper. The replacement paper is a little pricy (20.00 per roll) but cheaper than having to buy paper AND ink. You have to get a Endicia account to print postage and that was easy as well. The basic package offered from Endicia with this printer is free monthly and it prints all kinds of postage, including international. HOWEVER, if you want TRACKING NUMBERS for your packages, you will have to upgrade to a monthly fee service (mine for Mac was about 16.00) to be able to get delivery confirmation, which is important to me. I don't mind paying that fee to not have to go to the post office every day. Those people make me want to stab myself in the face. This little unit may very well have saved my life :)Prints nice and fast, USB connection only. No off switch. It'd be nice if it had network connectivity. Printing postage is going to cost you $15 per month for the service, and there is no discount on the postage either. Not all the postage types were available, like padded envelope. Great label printer. The printer is great and I love not having to change labels as often but we were wanting to try out the postage stamp feature. It advertises that it comes with postage stamp Labels. IT DOES NOT! This is the second printer bundle we have received and neither included the postage stamp labels. It clearly shows on the box and in the picture here on the item page that it is two rolls of address labels. So why say it has postage stamps? Aggravated!
