Ok, so I bought this printer from Amazon and it only took about 4 days for delivery. Got it just after Christmas.Got it home and started to unpack everything only to find that the print head was missing.I really dind't know what to do, so I called Cannon customer support. They were actually very understanding and told me to email my order and reciept and if everything checked out, they would send me a new print head.I sent everything to them and waited 5 days only to call them back and they didn't know what I was talking about, until I gave them the case number they originally gave me. They told me they would send one out and it took 4 days for it to arrive. In the mean time, I got a email from Amazon asking me to fill out a survey. I filled out the survey and explained what happened. I never got an answer from Amazon about this issue, so I really don't have anything good to say about Amazon. Thanks to Canon, I have the printer up and running. Now to the review:This is a real nice printer. I don't know why there are so many complaints about the ip3600. I have used Canon and Epson and like both of them. I will say that the Epson does do better on photo printing, but that is because they use 6 inks which will provide better quality. The ip3600 does take awhile to power up before you can print, but once it's ready, it's very fast.Print quality is very good and photos are good. The solution to not having to wait for the printer to start up, is to just leave it on! These things don't take alot of power and they don't run a cleaning cycle everytime, which is why everyone complains about ink usage. All these printers use alot of ink. You need alot of ink to print a photo.I have printed over 30 4x6 borderless prints at the highest quality and the ink tanks are still showing amost full.In sumary, I really like this printer. Price is rite and print quality is just fine.If you want wireless, you will need to look at a different printer. If not, you can't go wrong with this one.I also like the fact that you have a front paper tray and for heavier card stock, you also have the rear straight thru paper tray. It works great without jams.Setup is easy and I had no problems with the install. Everything was very easy. You can surely spend more for a printer, but for under $80 you can't go wrong.Go buy one, you won't be disapointed!Well, this was fun. First, Amazon listed as "in stock". Then I was told there would be a delay. OK, no big deal.------------------------------------------------------------------I go to set it up, there are little pieces of paper taped everywhere, cautions about this, cautions about that. One sheet of paper actually said how terribly important it is not to put the printhead in incorrectly(at least that's what I think the illustration was showing). Then, this disclaimer: your stuff might not look exactly as shown in the diagram. That's not comforting, this is critical info, and I should rely on the diagram to avoid damage, but the diagram may not be what I have?---------------------------------OK, this is upsetting, but I go forward. I think some of the instructions were a bit cryptic, difficult to follow, but if you really thought it through, and were patient, you'd understand what they were saying.----------------------------------------------Now--the fun part. The software refuses to recognize that the printer is attached, properly to the PC. Help files tell you to choose "try again" if things fail. You can try till heck freezes over, ain't gonna work. Solution #2 is to restart the PC, which I did a couple times. Of course, there's no way out of their brilliant, non-functional software, one must call up the task manager to end the lousy, nonfunctional installation.-------------------------As an extra added fun bonus, when you do restart, you'll be treated to a screen that gives you all kinds of printing options. Really? I thought the installation had failed. Sure it did, so when you click on all these "options", you'll be told something about the printer not being recognized. How dumb is this software?----------------------------------Its now almost 4A, I thought I'd be done quite some time ago. Turns out, I'll never be done. Now I get to ship it back, hope I get a refund.I should mention I'm using Win7, and this printer is advertised as being Win7 compatible.---------------------------------I tried both solution #1, and solution #2, as recommended by the "help" file in this set-up software. I tried a different USB port on my PC, I unplugged and replugged the USB connection at the printer. No go. I tried a second USB cable, I tried everything.--------------------------------------------------------I tried uninstalling/re-installing multiple times.I didn't wanna wait for Monday to call Canon. If their customer support is as bad as their instructions, no thank you. Another reviewer here said they received a replacement printer after calling Canon. And they received a refurbished printer, with a warranty of only 30 days. So, that customer was punished for Canon's mistake. They endured frustration, they patiently waited for the replacement. But they paid for a NEW printer, not refurbished, and they PAID for a one year warranty. This sounds grossly unfair.-----------------------------------ADDED 18July2010: After discussion with someone else, I realized that maybe this was in trouble from the start. The "carriage" or "trolley", that part that holds the printhead and cartridges, would not stop in a place that was suitable for installation of both printheads and cartridges. I started/restarted printer several times(this is an early step, you don't have the printer connected to a PC at this point). After several tries with the "on"(green) button, the trolley stopped at a place that was suitable for insertion of printhead/cartridges.---------------------------About 6A, I checked w/Amazon, they said it would be picked up the next business day. The only troubling thing is that I'm supposed to include the packing slip--but there was none. I'll include a note, instead, I guess.----------------------------------The best I can hope for is that UPS comes and gets it, then Amazon returns my money. At best, I walk away losing about 7 hours of frustration and unpacking, packing. I guess that Canon figures my time is free, whereas if they actually had to pay a quality control person, that would cost them money.Since shipping is free(for me), and return shipping is free(for me), somebody's losing money on this.----------------------------------Amazon was told, through their site, Sunday morning that I wanted to return printer, UPS picked it up Monday, Weds, I got a refund. At least that part went ok. It was all a terrible waste of time.
