Product description Brother International (mfc210c) MFC COLOR FLATBED MULTIFUNCTIO Amazon.com If you work at home or in a small office environment, the cost in both money and space of buying single-use machines can be prohibitively expensive. The MFC-210C from Brother delivers printing, copying, scanning, and faxing capabilities, allowing you to free up office space and combine all your important office tasks into one effective machine. With its small 3-picoliter droplet size, the MFC-210C delivers print resolutions of up to 6,000 x 1,200 dpi and print speeds of up to 20 ppm for black and up to 15 ppm for color. The easy-to-use, 100-page, front-loading paper tray accommodates sizes up to 8.5 by 14.0 inches, while a 25-sheet output paper tray accommodates most print jobs easily. The fax machine is capable of both black and color faxing, and has transmission speeds of up to 6 seconds per page. Twenty auto-dial locations are provided to help you keep track of your most important numbers, and a 70-location broadcasting feature allows you to send one fax to multiple locations. A redial function will automatically attempt to reach the dialed number until you receive an answer, while a 25-page internal memory means that you won't miss important faxes, even when you run out of paper. The built-in copier is capable of both black and color copying, with copy speeds of up to 17 cpm for black and up to 11 cpm for color. You can reduce or enlarge your copies anywhere from 25% to 400%, while a multi-copy function lets you make up to 99 copies from a single original. The scanner has a 36-bit color depth and 256 levels of grayscale, resulting in crisp colors and subtle grays; and the 600 x 2,400 optical scan resolution provides accurate, true-to-life scans. Additionally, one-touch scan-to-e-mail, scan-to-image, scan-to-OCR, and scan-to-file buttons automate these frequently used scanner functions. If you are a digital photo enthusiast, you'll be glad to hear that the MFC-210C has a photo capture center that allows you to create photo-quality prints directly from a wide variety of media cards, with or without your PC. Several helpful software tools, including ScanSoft PaperPort, ScanSoft OmniPage OCR Software, and Presto! PageManager Software for Mac, help you get the most out of your prints and scans. The unit connects to your computer via its USB port, while an optional wireless print server can be purchased to use the MFC-210C as a wireless print device. Energy Star compliant, the unit consumes only 20 watts during normal operation and about 3 watts during sleep mode. Compatible with PC and Mac operating systems, the MFC-210C also comes backed with a one-year limited warranty. summary: definitely a great bargain for occassional and lite-weight home usei bought the brother mfc 210c after much deliberation during the thanksgiving sale. i wasn't sure if this would be all it was touted to be, but decided to take a chance anyways because of the awesome price. I've been using this thing for nearly 4 months now and i've been pretty pleased with it.installation was a breeze. followed the steps and was done in a few mins.i occassionly send out business letters and print envelopes and this serves my needs pretty well. one thing i do find awkward is the loading and uloading of the paper tray: doesn't have separate feeds for envelopes and normal a4 papers. if you want to print on an envelop or different sized paper, you have take the entire tray out, remove the old papers, adjust the size of the feed by hand and place the tray back in. and once you're done, you have to repeat the steps to set things right again. but for the price (~$70 after rebates) i'm happy.the printer isn't very smart: if you manually set the paper tray size to a com10 envelope, but forget to set it to the correct size in the software, sometimes the printer causes smudges. (i guess i've been pampered by high end printers at work and school)didn't come with a usb cable, but got one for $5 at sams. i like the fact that the cartridges are separate so don't have to waste an entire cartridge if one color gets over.i've printed a few photos on glossy paper and the performance has been pretty good. you have to make sure that the "finest" setting is selected in the photo mode for things to be spiffy.the scanner is pretty quick for most things, but slows down terribly if you push it to 2400x2400 :) (wat'd u expect??)the photocopy option is by far the simplest: just put the document on the window and hit the copy button. works like a standard photocopier, don't have to go to the comp at all. scanning also promises to be the same, but hitting the button on the MFC ususally ends up scanning the whole flat-bed area, which is dumb. i'd rather bring up the twain import menu and preview what i'm going to scan in.quirks: every day around 10:30 or so, the printer "wakes" up and does something. the manual says the printer will clean itself periodically even when in stand-by.havne't used the fax at all.
